Welcome to the wondrous world of Discovery Camps – your child’s summer experience of a lifetime! With three age-specific camps, Discovery Camps engage children ages 3-13 in play, interaction, and exploration while introducing them to the exhilarating outdoors. Nourish your child’s needs for fun, fitness, and friends this summer by enrolling him or her in weekly Discovery Camps.

 

The Discovery Camps program is accredited through the  American Camping Association (ACA). The ACA Accreditation demonstrates the Valparaiso Parks Department’s commitment to provide a safe and quality camp program, assuring the practices at camp reflects the most up-to-date, research-based standards in the camping industry. Discovery Camps have been accredited since 2007.

Discovery Voyagers Camp
Entering Kindergarten (ages 5-6)
Parent Information Guide

Jump on board and join us for a camp voyage this summer! The little ones have grown and are getting ready to enter kindergarten; this camp provides an excellent bridge from preschool time to elementary school time. Each themed week will provide creative activities especially geared for children entering kindergarten such as ooey gooey forts or bubble painting.

Kiwanis West Shelter, Rogers-Lakewood Park

June 8-August 7

 

Days/Times:

Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

Fee:

$53 Standard

Discovery Day Camp
Grades 1-6 (entering in Fall) 
Parent Information Guide

Discover the wonders of summertime fun in Discovery Day Camp this year. From archery to boating to special event days, each week is filled with an exciting variety of activities. Campers are divided into specific groups (Explorers: Grades 1 & 2; Pioneers: Grades 3 & 4; Jr. Rangers: Grades 5 & 6) for age appropriate activities that correlate with the weekly themes like Crazy Dayz or Music Week! Campers also embark on 3 special field trips throughout the summer and have the opportunity to participate in their age group’s overnight campout (additional fee applies to the overnight)!

New in 2009! The weekly registration fee includes the Friday pizza lunch special (2 slices of pizza, 2 breadsticks & juice). The field trip week registration includes the field trip and lunch fee. Each camper will also receive one camp shirt for the summer.

Camp Care
Grades 1-8 (entering in Fall)

Discovery Day & Ranger campers are invited to extend their fun by playing games, making crafts or relaxing at AM or PM camp care. A snack is provided during PM Camp Care.

Monday-Friday
AM Care, 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
PM Care, 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

NEW!! - Ranger Camp
Grades 7-8 (entering in Fall)
Parent Information Guide

This summer we are setting out to expand the range of experiences for our Ranger campers here at Discovery Camps. We have created a brand new specially designed camp for our tweens! Each week the Rangers will set out on new leadership adventures including community volunteer opportunities, exploring careers through visits to a variety of local businesses, and specific leadership opportunities within the Discovery Camps programs. Rangers will also have time to experience fun at their “home base” in Rogers-Lakewood Park like boating, hiking, or cooking over a camp fire. Rangers can also register for the special overnight campout! Field trips will be held in conjunction with the Discovery Day Camp program.

Weekly registration fee includes all trips, activities & Friday pizza day. The field trip week registration includes the field trip and lunch fee. Each camper will receive one camp shirt for the summer.
