The Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation is always thinking of new and innovative ways to bring fun and family together in our beautiful park environments. Here’s what we have lined up for the 2009 season!

 

If the registration deadline is past on a particular event, please contact our office to verify availability or to be put on a waiting list.

Special Events

Concerts in the Park

Join us this summer for special free concerts featuring some wonderfully talented musicians from Valparaiso and beyond. These concerts are possible due to the generous support of individual and corporate donors. The rain location for concerts held at Rogers-Lakewood Park is Butterfield Pavilion.

Movies Around the City – NEW!

Watch Your Favorite Movies Under the Stars! –

Outdoor Movies brought to you by Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events, Inc.

New to the community for 2009 will be movies around the city. This is a partnership with the Valparaiso Community Festival and Events office. Most of the movies will take place in the downtown park, however throughout the summer, the movies will be hitting different parks throughout the city. Keep a look out for film titles, dates, and times.

From June through August.

Valparaiso’s NEW Central Park and Other Parks throughout the city

Popcorn On the Run

 

Kick off the Popcorn Festival celebration by participating in your favorite Valparaiso Parks event!

 

Popcorn Panic
5-Mile Run and 5-K Walk

This annual race offers a challenging course and a scenic tour of Valparaiso. You're invited to race as an individual or as a team-sign up with your family, co-workers, or school.

Lit'l Kernel Puff

Kids start your engines…on your mark, get set…GO! Children can be a part of the Popcorn Festival races by running in this one of a kind race. Children are divided into their age categories when running (the race begins with children ages 2-9).

Fill out our Lit'l Kernel Puff Program Evaluation Form. Your opinion is important to us! Please take a moment to let us know how we are doing. Your feedback is vital to our efforts to continually improve programs for you and your family. Thank you for your assistance!

Maximum registration is 675, registration will be closed once the maximum is reached. Registration has reached the maximum every year prior to race day, please register early, spaces are limited.

 

Valparaiso's 7th Annual Triathlon

Hosted by the Valparaiso Department of Parks & Recreation and the Valparaiso Family YMCA

Rogers-Lakewood Park and community areas

1/4 mile (Loomis Lake)

12.4 miles (County Roads)

3.2 miles (Street Course)

Ages:

Male/Female four-year increments (ex: 20-24)
Must be 15 years old by Dec. 31, 2009 to participate.

Awards:

Overall Male/Female, Top three in each age group, Top three teams

Registration:

Log onto www.valpotri.net for registration fee and deadline dates. Space is limited to the first 500 participants

This is a sanctioned USA Triathlon Event

Fee:

$55 for non-USA Triathlon Members

$45 for USA Triathlon Members through July 3

$10 Late Fee July 4-July 8

No registrations after July 8

Team (2 or 3) $90 + $10 for each non-USAT member

 

Junior Triathlon

Swim-Bike-Run for fitness and fun in this extraordinary race. Over 110 smiling children from all over the region participated in the first annual event in 2008, don’t miss out this year! This event provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce your child to three lifelong fitness opportunities in a fun atmosphere. Give it a “tri”…all participants will receive a medal and t-shirt; everyone’s a winner!

*Participants will be assessed a $5 registration fee for those who are not members of the USA Triathlon organization.

This is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event.
